Patrick Akpojotor

Nigerian artist Patrick Akpojotor’s works is influenced by his fascination with architecture, ancient African masks, built spaces and their ability to shape one’s identity. He is interested in the differences in human attitude relating to the culture of an inhabited built environmnet, which observes how structures like roads and public spaces are named after people therefore creating an awareness of that person’s deeds and archives their existence. Akpojotor’s work combines elements of the built enviromnent, geometry, human forms and imagined structures to create abstract compositions that interrogate our sense of perception and that challenges the viewer to see differently. Akpojotor’s canvases become a playground where form, color, perspective and space join in interplay; geometry and architectural elements highlight he influence of the built environment in shaping memories, experiences and identities in the world.
